WAITING THEIR TURN

My photographs

On a snow laden tree sit a couple of crows

And they watch a performance below:

Six grey and white seagulls are circling around,

Then are diving for food in the snow.

A tray full of bread mixed with sunflower seeds

On the hedge has been laid with some care.

“Don’t gobble the lot” think the couple of crows,

“For surely that wouldn’t be fair.”

Another observer is waiting his turn

And approaches the food laden tray.

For a regular caller, the wood pigeon, comes

Through the snow on this biting cold day.

The ducks have all fled from the ice covered lake.

They have joined all their friends at the river,

For this cold arctic weather, this white wintry world,

Causes birdlife and humans to shiver.
